Tips For Maintaining The Control Of Forklift

Operating a forklift requires focus, precision, and skill—even the most experienced forklift operators need a little help from time to time, especially in tight spots or challenging environments. Here are some of the best tips

1. Facing The Rear
Drivers should always sit facing the rear of the forklift, which provides most of the forklift's support and is equipped with the forks.
2. Look At The Direction Of Travel
One of the most important tips for maintaining control of your forklift is always make sure your eyes are facing the direction of forklift traveling.
3. Be Careful And Take Your Time
Driving a forklift is completely different than driving a regular vehicle, so you shouldn't step on the floor to get the job done faster. Driving too fast can cause a rollover or collision. Make sure you move at a slow and steady speed for optimal safety.
4. Honk Before Moving
No matter what environment you work in, you need to be aware of your surroundings. Before each start of a move, give a quick blast of the horn to ensure that other workers in your area are paying attention to your movement.
5. Stop When Sight Is Blocked
If your vision is restricted in any way—such as from other equipment or something else in the warehouse—stop moving immediately.
6. Be Careful When Reversing
Reversing can create challenges for forklift control and should be avoided if possible; however, there may be times when the driver may have to reverse, so extreme caution should be used.
